Internet trends

Doua din media

1. Internetul va depasi printul (ziare + reviste) in 2015. E vorba de investitiile in publicitate.

Abia in 2014 poate aparea o crestere. De aici.

„Another game of thrones”

The tech industry has a history of bitter rivalries: IBM and Apple in the 1980s; Microsoft and Netscape in the 1990s. But the rivalries shaping the market today are even richer and more complicated, not least because they have a personal edge. Three of the big four are still run by men who made their billions as founder, or co-founder, of their empires—Amazon’s Jeff Bezos, Google’s Larry Page and Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg. And although Jobs no longer rules Apple, he groomed Tim Cook, his successor as chief executive. “In the modern history of technology we have never seen such a highly engaged group of chief executives and founders,” says Mary Meeker, a partner at Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers, a venture-capital company.

People tell themselves that failure is ok — part of the process, even.

In fact, Silicon Valley has almost created a cult of ‘failure’, celebrating it as though it were a badge of honor.

But people don’t fear failure. They fear shame.

They don’t fear the consequences of failure — not getting rich, having to do their old job again, etc. They fear the shame of looking their old co-workers in the eye.

And they fear the shame of little things too…

They fear being ashamed when they sit at a table with their co-founders and try to come up with a name for their new company. Do you know why so many companies have shitty names? Because all the co-founders were afraid to throw out crazy ideas that might get laughed at. So they end up with horrible names like Trippy or Contently.

Trei despre Black Friday

la ei:

3.

Only 0.68% of Black Friday online sales came from Facebook referrals–two-thirds of one percent. That was a decline of 1% from last year.
And how about Twitter? A couple of years ago, people were excited about Twitter’s potential as a commerce platform, too.
But Twitter’s impact on ecommerce, it seems, is zero. Not „basically zero.”
Zero.
Commerce site traffic from Twitter accounted for exactly 0.00% of Black Friday traffic. That was down from 0.02% last year.

Google ISP

Google Inc. has held talks with satellite-TV provider Dish Network Corp. DISH in recent weeks to partner on a new wireless service that would rival the networks of wireless carriers such as AT&T and Verizon, according to people familiar with the discussions.

The discussions are the latest move by Google to expand its ownership of the infrastructure that brings the Web to personal computers and mobile devices, including the pipes that connect people’s homes to the Internet.

Dan a raspuns politicos pr-istic ambelor intrebari.

Google vs Samsung

All this plus an overall growth in volumes from 64 million to over 100 million per quarter has meant that the company is raking in enormous profits. Not only did it overtake Nokia, the market share leader for 14 years, but is making more profits than Nokia ever did.

So much profit in fact that it has overtaken Google’s decisively.

The reason I point this out is that Samsung’s success is dependent on having ridden on the back of Android. Samsung’s ascent can be precisely timed to their adoption of Android. The groundbreaking Samsung Galaxy launch was the Galaxy S which shipped in June 2010.
